Will we see a rise in BED BUGS due to COVID-19?

Now that we have all been isolating in our homes for the last few weeks with the announcement of the Social/Physical Distancing requirement will that have an impact on the number of cases we see of Bed Bugs emerging?

Well the simple answer might be No…and Yes.

Typically we see a rise in Bed Bugs beginning around late April when the temperatures begin to rise as the bugs favor the warmer temperatures and a spike in September with travelers returning home from summer vacations. This is not going to be a typical season with the entire world quarantined and limiting our access to the “outside” world.

Although people are no longer traveling further than the grocery store or to purchase the absolute necessities less of an opportunity to hitch a ride.

However, these notorious hitch-hikers stowaway in used furniture and clothing and settle in to our homes without us even knowing. If you have a warm bed, they have perfect conditions to thrive. Bed Bugs can migrate from unit to unit in multi-dwelling buildings and do not discriminate. Some other hiding places where these guys can be found are in couches and bed frames. They may even be in some place you might not expect, including stuffed animals, wheelchairs, airplanes, school buses, purses, inside bedside lamps and even in books.

If you suspect Bed Bugs contact a specialist who can walk you through an inspection and what your next steps may be for treatment and future prevention.
